PTL
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The use of terms PTL and "Praise The Lord" can be confusing.
In 1973, Trinity Broadcasting Systems was founded by Paul Crouch, Jan Crouch, Jim Bakker and Tammy Bakker. At some time, it changed its name to the Trinity Broadcasting Network.
After a falling-out between Jim Bakker and Paul Crouch, the Bakkers left to start the "Praise The Lord" Network in Charlotte, NC. Their flagship television program was called "The PTL Club". The "Praise The Lord" Network was also referred to as "The PTL Television Network" and "PTL-The Inspirational Network", or simply "PTL".
PTL collapsed in 1987 in the wake of a sexual harassment and embezzlement scandal involving Jim Bakker.
Hence, "PTL" and "Praise The Lord" are often ambiguously and interchangeably used for:
- "People That Love"
- "Praise The Lord"
- The "Praise The Lord" Television program, the Trinity Broadcasting Network's flagship Television show.
- The now renamed "Praise The Lord" Network (or "PTL"-The Inspirational Network) in Charlotte, NC which at the time produced "The PTL Club" Television show. This network is now known as INSP-The Inspiration Network.
- The "The PTL Club" television program on the PTL Television Network.
- KDKA's Morning Program: Pittsburgh Today Live
- In obstetrics, Preterm labour
