[Psychiatry MMC][1] [ISSN 1550-5952], also known as Psychiatry 2008, is a peer-reviewed monthly journal that has become an important addition to the field of psychiatry. Launched as Psychiatry 2004, the Journal title is updated each year with the year designation; thus, for 2009, the title becomes Psychiatry 2009. Psychiatry 2008 is published monthly by Matrix Medical Communications in Edgemont, Pennsylvania.
Backqround: As psychiatric disorders become more prevalent in the United States and abroad, today’s psychiatrist needs to stay informed on numerous topics related to the field. Patients are becoming more informed through direct-to-consumer advertising, the Internet, and various media outlets. Increasingly inquisitive patients, rising malpractice costs, and the implementation of HIPAA guidelines and Medicare Part D place tremendous pressure on practicing psychiatrists to keep up to date on several facets within the specialty and numerous asides that impact their practice and overall patient care. This is why the journal Psychiatry 2008 was created--in order to provide pertinent information on relevant topics to the practicing psychiatrist.
While it is understood that there are several outstanding research publications in the field of psychiatry, Psychiatry 2008 is the only peer-reviewed journal that translates the vast amounts of psychiatric and CNS research into applicable information for the practicing clinician. Amir Kalali, MD, editor, oversees an editorial advisory board [2] that comprises 65 leaders covering all areas of psychiatric medicine.
Psychiatry 2008 provides 40,000 US psychiatrists with evidence-based information in a practical format that can be applied to their daily practices. The journal offers its readers original research, practical discussions on the latest research, comprehensive reviews, didactic case reports, and provocative commentaries on contemporary topics in psychiatry—written by key opinion leaders as well as practicing clinicians who are “in the trenches”—providing vital balance to the research-rich literature that is already available.
Submissions: The journal considers for publication both solicited and unsolicited submissions. All submissions undergo peer review to ensure that the material is clinically relevant and concise.
Indexing: Psychiatry 2008 is indexed on PsycINFO (www.apa.org) and on CINAHL® (www.cinahl.org), the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature®.
