[edit] Oil in Prudhoe Bay

What conditions lead to the formation of so much oil in an area this far north? Was this area previously south and drifted north over 10's of thousands of years? Or was the climate so much warmer this area supported lush plant growth at some point in time?

All of the above, to some extent. The source rocks are of three ages - Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous. Although this part of Alaska was not particularly far south at those times, the climate was indeed significantly more uniform and warmer worldwide then (65 to 250 million years ago). Dinosaur fossils and trackways exist in the Cretaceous of the North Slope. --Geologyguy 16:40, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Revealing demographics?

So now I know that the one family living in the area are between 25 and 44 have three children, whose parents include a white person and a Alaska native. I wouldn't be pleased to see this if I were them. --hello, i'm a member | talk to me! 18:40, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

And I know their family income. --hello, i'm a member | talk to me! 18:41, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
That's exactly what I was thinking. From the perspective of someone from the UK, to see these kind of statistics being published about a single family seems utterly ridiculous. It falls short of telling you whether it's a white husband and a Native American wife or vice-versa, but still...--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 22:54, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
