Zdzislaw Prochownik was born in Bielsko Biala, Poland in 1953. He arrived in Canada in 1975 and graduated from the double bass class at McGill University. He has worked as a front desk bass player with major symphony orchestras across Canada and since 1984, has played with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

Other than being a professional musician, Zdzislaw obtained training and has become an experienced double bass bow maker. His skills and unique approach to bow making has been appreciated by professional musicians across the world.

Zdzislaw is a dedicated volunteer who has been recognized and respected for his creative and leadership talents. He has been involved with the Canadian Polish Congress and over the years has been a key player in organizing various fund raising and cultural events. Under his leadership, the Polish Arts Festival was organized and put on in 1999 and 2002. The goal of the festival was to promote and cultivate Polish culture among the Canadian and Polish communities. These cultural events showcased very talented artists of Polish ancestry who celebrated the richness and vibrancy of the Polish music, film, theatre, fine arts, literature and poetry. In his spare time, Zdzislaw enjoys traveling and sailing. He also loves spending time with his family and friends.
