Prohibition (writ)

A writ of prohibition is an prerogative writ sought in a Court of Appeal, usually requesting a ruling from the Appellate Court that a lower court be prohibited from undertaking further action on a cause pending before it. The two main grounds in seeking a writ of prohibition are:

1. The trial judge is illegally presiding over the case, and

2. The trial court has lost legal jurisdiction to try the case.
