An image of a newt lung cell stained with flourescent dyes undergoing mitosis, specifically during mid-late prometaphase.
The material stained green are the mitotic spindles and the material stained light blue are the chromosomes most of which have already have both their kinetochores attached to the microtubules and are aligning themselves to the center. The cellular membrane is invisible during this photo.
