Princess Irene of Orange-Nassau → Princess Irene of the Netherlands – Princess Irene did not lose her title of Princess of the Netherlands because the 2002 act regulating titles of the royal house was not retroactive. She only lost her membership to the royal house. Had her marriage taken place after 2002 then she would no longer be a princess of the Netherlands. Charles 05:17, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

• Oppose (but not strongly) While that's her name according to the official website of the Royal House [1] and she definitely is entitled to this style, Irene herself always uses the Lippe-Biesterfeld name. It is unclear to me which is more common in written publications about Irene. Noel S McFerran 16:57, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
• Weak Support: Like Noel said, that is what the Royal House calls her, but she uses the Lippe-Biesterfeld name. I am always inclined to use what the RH uses, IMO. Prsgoddess187 17:55, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Shouldn't she be listed under Princess Irene of Orange-Nassau? She married without the permission of the States-General so she lost her right to the throne, like her nephew Johan-Friso, and he became Prince Johan-Friso of Orange-Nassau. Irene uses the name "Irene van Lippe-Biesterfeld"... I don't know whether or not the Princess is still "of the Netherlands" or even what her actual title or common name is now. Charles 23:06, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] HRH Irene, Princess of Orange-Nassau

The Princess Irene is a born Princess of Orange-Nassau and of Lippe-Biesterfeld. Until her marriage to the Duke of Parma, Prince Carlos de Bourbon de Parme, she also was Princess of the Netherlands. Parliament was not asked to approve the marriage (which it would not have granted probably) and, thus, the Princess Irene lost her royal title of the Netherlands. Her use of Her Royal Highness remained legitimate. Officially she is now, depsite her divorce:

Her Royal Highness Irene, Princess de Bourbon de Parme née Princess of Orange-Nassau, Princess of Lippe-Biesterfeld.

However, she does not use the derivative title of her former husband, and she is indeed known as Irene of Lippe-Biesterfeld.
