Prix du Pin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Prix du Pin is a Group 3 flat horse race in France for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1,400 metres (approximately 7 furlongs) at Longchamp Racecourse in September.
It takes its name from the Haras du Pin, the oldest national stud farm in France, founded in 1715. Originally a race for stayers, it was first run in 1883 at Chantilly over a distance of 3,000 metres. Following several modifications, the present much shorter distance was introduced in 1970. Aside from some wartime venue changes and cancellations, the race has remained at Longchamp since it was first transferred from Chantilly in 1907.
It was elevated to Group 3 status in 2004 having earlier been classed as a Listed race.
