PWCS is the second largest school district in Virginia enrolling approximately 72,654 students in the 2007-2008 school year. Prince William County Public Schools district is the fourth largest school district in Washington Metropolitan Area after Fairfax County, Virginia, Montgomery County, Maryland and Prince George's County, Maryland school districts.
Prince William County's illegal immigration crackdown, according to the Prince William County School System, has led to the enrollment in the English as a Second Language class to drop by 759 students from September 2007 to March 2008. Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart says the county expects to save $6 million in education costs because of the transfers. [1]
