Prince George William of Hanover (25 March 1915–8 January 2006) was the second son of Ernest Augustus III, Duke of Brunswick and his wife Princess Viktoria Luise of Prussia, the only daughter of Wilhelm II, German Emperor and Princess Augusta of Schleswig-Holstein.

[edit] Marriage and issue
On 23 April 1946 in Salem, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, Prince George married Princess Sophie of Greece and Denmark, daughter of Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg, and the widow of the late Prince Christoph of Hesse-Cassel.
Prince and Princess George had three children:
- His Royal Highness Prince Welf Ernst of Hanover (25 January 1947–10 January 1981)
- His Royal Highness Prince Georg of Hanover (born 9 December 1949)
- Her Royal Highness Princess Frederike of Hanover (born 15 October 1954)
Prince George William of Hanover died in 2006 of a brain aneurysm whilst in India. His wife, Sophie, sister of Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, later Duke of Edinburgh, consort of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, died in 2001.
Prince George formerly lived in Schliersee, near Munich.

George was a descendant of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha through their eldest daughter Victoria, Princess Royal, the wife of Frederick III, German Emperor.
His sister, Princess Frederika of Hanover married King Paul I of the Hellenes.
