[edit] Early life

Prince Rasso was born at Schloß Leutstetten near Starnberg, Bavaria. He is the eldest son of Prince Rasso of Bavaria and his wife Archduchess Theresa of Austria.

[edit] Later life

The prince is a Benedictine monk, a member of the Roman Catholic Order of Saint Benedict. Until 1996, he lived under the name Pater Florian at the St. Ottilien Archabbey in Emming in southern Bavaria. Since 1996, Prince Franz-Josef has been living at the Peramiho Abbey in Tanzania.

Because the current head of the Royal House of Bavaria, Duke Franz and his younger brother Max have no male offsprings, Franz-Josef's uncle Prince Ludwig will become the next in line in the Bavarian Succession. Prince Franz-Josef is currently 8th.
