[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Shureken Disk.jpg
Image:Shureken Disk.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.fuck this shit he said Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] whip
Alright i will prove that the whip is not made of any xenemorph apendige of any sort. Because I have the "AvP inside the monster shop book" wich says and proves that the whip is made out of the same metal predator's use for every weapon ( don't believe me, well buy the book and it will prove it!). I am sick and tired of hearing that it's made out of a xenemorph tail, teeth, spikes, predalien tail, ect.Who ever puts that its a xenemorph tail mistaken it because it has a xenemorph tail TIP NOT TAIL! Now stop writing that it is a xenemorph anything. I HAVE PROVEN YOU WRONG!SO STOP WRITING CRAP THAT'S NOT TRUE!!

it looked better without it.--Marhawkman (talk) 06:28, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- I know, right? There are too many images. — Enter Movie (talk) 21:16, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- No... White space is areas with no pictures or text. I think somebody fixed the problem I commented on already.--Marhawkman (talk) 23:22, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] For those looking to salvage this article...
Please ascertain which fair-use images are essential to clearly understanding the topic. I see two depictions of the Predator's ability to see outside the visible EM spectrum, two depictions of the cloak, three images of the claw, and two images of plasma guns. What purpose does the arm-mounted countdown image serve? Is there something so special about the predator's wire -- which looks so remarkably alien -- that we need an image of it? --EEMIV (talk) 22:44, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Any comments
Well? What do you think to my clean up?129.12.200.49 (talk) 15:46, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- While a remarkable improvement with the removal of speculation and original research, the article still does not meet the WP:WAF call for information on these fictional items' real-world development, critical response, merchandising, etc. The words "director," "producer," "response," "develop," "product," and "merchandise" do not appear in the article. The addition of citations is laudable, but substantiate only plot summary, which is insufficient for an article about a fictional topic. --EEMIV (talk) 15:56, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- It's a list split out of the main predator article for readability purposes. Independant notability is irrelevent. Though to be sure more real-world-impact would be nice, but I don't see it as mandatory. I think it went a bit too far in a few spots, like Wolf's gauntlet, but it does look pretty good.--Marhawkman (talk) 05:31, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- The cleanup sure did help alot, but it still reads too much like a fanpage and not an encyclopedia article. I'm at a loss though as to how I can improve this without just rewriting the whole thing though, so any ideas anyone?--Little Jimmy (talk) 01:18, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
I guess the first thing to do would be seeing what does make it look like a fanpage, and start from there.Dark hyena (talk) 14:49, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Well for starters, I think the article could be a whole lot shorter, because as of now it really seems to waffle on a bit, often repeating itself or giving redundant information. It's as if whoever wrote it was just desperate to make the Predator's seem as badass as possible and just put in as much information as they possibly could without stopping to think whether it is actually necessary. In short, I think this article needs to be toned down.--Little Jimmy (talk) 12:04, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Images
Again, this article is bogged down with far too many fair-use images. Additionally, Dark hyena's recent edit summary imploring people to get screencaps may be a step in the wrong direction -- a photograph of, say, a prop would be preferable to a screen capture; non-free/fair-use content (such as screen grabs) should be a *last* resort for illustrating an article. See WP:NONFREE.
- I have removed the following images because they are vague, blurry, and don't really do anything to add understanding of the technology/weapon being discussed. Please do not restore them without first discussing here.
- Image:Predator_netgun_2.jpg - looks just like any other prop sci-fi gun; nothing special. Image does not "significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic" as required by WP:NONFREE.
- Image:Predator wire.jpg - blurry and indistinct picture of...a wire. Ditto failure of meeting non-free use requirements.
- Image:Predator whip.jpg - again vague, indistinct, doesn't add to readers' understanding.
- Image:Predator_shuriken2.jpg - prop is mostly concealed by the creature; doesn't effectively illustrate the topic. Image:Shureken Disk.jpg would be a better alternative IF someone completes the fair-use rationale (i.e. provides a specific source for the image).
- Image:P2-Urban_Hunter-Gauntlet_Plasma_Bolt.png - the "plasma bolt" is just a tiny piece of a flare receding to the distance; doesn't significantly enhance understanding
- Image:Predator-bolas.jpg - spinny-thing in motion; nothing to distinguish predator device from the real thing; link to bolas (and image there) is sufficient -- esp. since all this article has is just one sentence about this device.
My two cents. --EEMIV (talk) 13:49, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Also removed Image:Predator-katana.jpg as it doesn't clearly show anything special, Predator-esque about this sword. Sometime a sword is just a sword. --EEMIV (talk) 13:18, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- Removed Image:Avp2 thumb034.jpg -- don't need two images for a "section" only three (now two) lines long. This image also is vague/indistinct; the other image, even as a thumbnail, is pretty clear. --EEMIV (talk) 13:36, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

- I placed an edit that the spear gun was designed as a telescopic rifle sometime within the past two or three weeks, and the statement was given the citation tag. In what way does a game screenshot not qualify as visual evidence? I have been looking at various dedicated Predator or Aliens Versus Predator websites showing a picture of the spear gun, and the Gamespot link was the only thing available to support the claim. - As I've linked in my reverting edit summaries, see WP:CITE and WP:RS. Your original assertion was a generalization cited by a single appearance in a game; more appropriate phrasing would be "in the game..." However, drawing an analogy between this fictional weapon to a "telescoping rifle" also strikes me original research. You could substantiate that claim by citing, perhaps, the game's manual, if that manual refers to this spear gun as a "telescoping rifle." Regardless, simply placing an image does not count as providing a citation; again, see WP:CITE for accepted methods of citing material, and WP:FOOT for how this article is standardized. And, on top of all the preceding, the well-intentioned image of the gun is small and vague (good, per WP:NONFREE) but unfortunately also indistinct. It does not significantly add to readers' understanding of the subject, and therefore does not meet Wikipedia's criteria for including non-free content. I am again removing the image. --EEMIV (talk) 11:29, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
