powerHouse Books is an independent publisher of art and photography books founded in 1995 by Daniel Power. The company is located near the Brooklyn waterfront of DUMBO in The powerHouse Arena, a gallery, events space, and bookstore.
From the release of Jack Pierson's All of a Sudden in 1995 to Charlie Ahearn's Wild Style The Sampler in 2007, powerHouse Books has established itself as a publishing house dedicated to redefining the art and photography book genre. Collaborations with historic artists, including LeRoy Neiman , Helen Levitt, Magnum Photos, Danny Lyon, Phil Stern, William Claxton, Ron Galella, Ralph Gibson, and John Coplans, are published alongside artists who have made their mark in other art forms, such as Jeff Bridges, Diane Keaton, Joel Grey, Bryan Adams, François Nars, and Andre Leon Talley. Additionally, it is with the publication of a number of previously unknown artists, like Jamel Shabazz, Boogie, Christoph Bangert, and Peter Sutherland, that powerHouse Books is able to bring new talent to the photography world.
