Poughkeepsie Day School is a small yet notable private elementary and secondary school on Poughkeepsie, New York. It claims in its mission to be "dedicated to the full development of each individual child, with a specific commitment to academic excellence within the progressive tradition. The school seeks to challenge each student to the limits of his or her abilities academically; a student’s artistic, physical and social development is also highly valued."^[1]

The school program is grounded in "progressive theory," which de-emphasizes competition for the the achievement of "personal best."^[1]

The school was founded in 1934.

The academic programs at Poughkeepsie Day School are divided into lower school (pre-k-grade 4); middle school (grades 5-8); and upper school (grades 9-12).

The division heads are Mary Ellen Kenny (lower school); George Swain (middle school); and Liz Vinogradov (upper school).
