Tower Bridge, a bascule bridge that crosses the River Thames in London, England, at twilight. It is close to the Tower of London, which gives it its name. It has become an iconic symbol of London and is sometimes mistakenly called London Bridge, which is the next bridge upstream. Opened in 1894, the bridge replaced the Tower Subway for carrying pedestrian traffic across the river.
