First color photograph

The first permanent colour photograph, taken by James Clerk Maxwell in 1861. The image is of a tartan ribbon and was created by taking three photos of the ribbon, each time with a red, green, or blue filter in front of the lens. The three images were developed and then projected onto a screen with three different projectors, each equipped with the same colour filter used to take its image.
