[edit] Image:Dionne Gold 1.jpg

Uploader User:Dma124 uploaded this promotional photo of Dionne Warwick a week ago and claims that "This is a scan of one of my own pictures.". It seems unlikely that the user is the actual copyright holder since the photo also available at a number of web pages, including [1], [2], [3], [4] including a HQ version at [5].

Please note that the user also claims to be the copyright owner of the cover art, Image:Dionne anyone.jpg, of Dionne Warwicks 1963 single Anyone Who Had a Heart. It is likely that the user is not quite aware of the difference between owning a physical object and owning its rights. — Thuresson (talk) 00:48, 22 April 2008 (UTC).

[edit] Image:Airkz_20040617_sputnik1_nasahq.jpg

Although NASA may have hosted this Sputnik image, I doubt they are the copyright holder. Kelly hi! 01:22, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Keep NASA (actually Smithsonian nowadays I think...) owns a replica of the satellite. Nowhere states NASA that this is a photograph of the actual satellite. I think it is reasonable to presume that this is not a copyvio, but simply a photograph of the replica. This is not uncommon for NASA (they also have a nag of repeating the same image for all 10 satellites in a series for instance ). --TheDJ (talkcontribs) 11:40, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

The uploader wrote "Only for non-commercial use" which means it is not a free license, in conflict with his {{cc-by-3.0}} tag. Also, I am not clear whether "self-made" means that it is made by the subject himself, or made by the uploader himself. Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 11:42, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Please read this diff. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 11:45, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Great news! The uploader clarified the licensing and ownership diff. Dubbgainer, if you could politely ask the copyright holder (the company or the photographer, I guess) for written consent, and forward it to the OTRS, we will be all done here. Instructions are at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. If an admin does delete it in the meantime (unlikely if consent is quick) the OTRS ticket will allow you to upload it again. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 16:59, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Dead source, unlikely to be in public domain. Kelly hi! 14:41, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: The picture is not public domain but is the property of Artesia High School Associated Student Body(ASB) working in unison with the Artesia High School Journalism/yearbook staff. The director in charge of Artesia ASB has given permission for the picture to be used on the school Wikipedia page, and therefore constitutes as authorization for use from the copyright holders. I would appreciate any assistance to change the licensing information, as it was posted with limited understanding of Wikipedia image copyright guidelines. If you have any further questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me through e-mail or my Wikipedia talk page.

Update: The link on the media page leading to the school website was outdated and has been corrected.

  • Speedy Delete The image was no doubt placed there by Oscar Bonello d/b/a/ Solidyne for pure financial gain. Oscar Bonello may have entered a new phase of meat puppetry. Jrod2 (talk) 17:24, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi JRod: You rushed but you are wrong. I've started this article two years ago (as user SebasL) and always wanted improve it but didn't have much time. In the last time I've noticed your discussion with Oscar Bonello. I keep silently until I decided to participate but by incorporating more information, and not by alleging manipulations and others insults. Keep in mind that this is my picture, taken by me, I want to make it public, and I don't claim any monetary compensation or royalty. It's about a discontinued software, so no financial gain is expected by me. As I know, the main objetive of Wikipedia is to extend the knowledge and fight the ignorance and not to hide the true. Best regards. SLedesma (talk) 21:49, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

      • We know from the time when the unit was used. As for the author, it is unknown. The claim of lack of something (known author's name) is logically impossible to substantiate. You are free to refute it by trying to find an author. I was not able to. --Irpen 19:26, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
