[edit] Summary

African American Literature has propelled itself beyond slavery and prejudice and landed in a place, faceless and without identity; a generation of voices have come to recognize that, as the descendants of the Civil Rights movement disconnectedness is their legacy. The disconnectedness, or form of extrication, became the impetus for Post-Rebellion Fiction. Post: meaning after Rebellion: meaning a violent struggle in order to attain human rights, Fiction: meaning literary depiction. Thus, Post-Rebellion Fiction is the literary depiction of the aftermath of a violent struggle, which attained human rights. The phrase became popularized during the early part of the 21st century as African American Literature began to flourish as a viable means of commercial entertainment. The definitive nature of the phrase can mostly be contributed to Dr. Loren L. Qualls [1] who constructed the term as an identifer in his doctoral thesis at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, School of Cultural Analsis.
