[edit] FCI info

The FCI info for this breed was incomplete, and I could not find it on the fci website - there are other warren dogs, but not this one - so I removed the info. - Trysha (talk) 23:06, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

The link that was originally on this page for FCI gave the group, section, and breed number, so I went to the site you gave intending to (a) look in that group and section, and if not there, (b) search for the breed number, and if not there, (c) search for "podeng". As it turns out, all of those methods would have found the breed there. Elf | Talk 00:12, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

This breed (and its varieties) is not a sighthound. Warren dogs are not sighthounds. --Richard Hawkins 03:04, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

I have deleted the term 'sighthound' in the description of this breed. There is almost an antipathy between the terms 'scenthound/sighthound' as used by the previous contributor. It is either one or the other, not both. Unlike the Mediterranean Island hunting dogs this breed has never to my knowledge acquired the title "half-sighthound" in European cynological literature. A little history to be noted here: in the early 1990's the Podengo's were instrumental in the FCI discussion on the group status of the Mediterranean Island hunting dogs such as the Kelb, Podenco and Cirneco. All these breeds were then placed in the FCI Spitz & Primitive group. The Portuguese were apparently themselves the prime agitators for that move. If any contributor to this page would like to describe this breed as a sighthound, please supply verification of its use as a sighthound - i.e. recorded history, preferably from its country of origin. That should not be difficult considering the fact that these dogs are still being used as hunting dogs in Portugal, and they know the difference between sighthounds and scenthounds in that country.
