Portuguese legislative election, 1980

The Portuguese legislative election of 1980 took place on October 5. In January of 1980, the Democratic Alliance, which had won the previous election, in December 2 of 1979, entered office with Francisco Sá Carneiro leading the government. However, this election was an extraordinaire election, and so, in 1980, another election was held.
The major parties involved and the respective leaders:
- United People Alliance (APU), Álvaro Cunhal
- Republican and Socialist Front (FRS), Mário Soares
- Democratic Alliance (AD), Francisco Sá Carneiro
The leader of the Democratic Alliance, Francisco Sá Carneiro, member of the Social Democratic Party was nominated Prime-Minister.

Notes:
- AD was composed by the CDS (Conservative) (46 MPs), the PSD (Conservative) (82 MPs) and the PPM (Monarchist) (6 MPs).
- FRS was composed by the PS (Social Democratic) (66 MPs), the UEDS (Socialist) (4 MPs) and the ASDI (Social Democratic) (4 MPs).
- APU was composed by the PCP (Communist) (39 MPs) and the MDP/CDE (Socialist) (2 MPs).
- Although the Social Democratic Party, the Democratic Social Center and the Socialist Party were united in the coalitions, they appear in the scorecard because they ran separated in the constituencies of Azores and Madeira.
- A generic red rose was used in the Labour Party (PT) symbol.
