Portstewart Primary School is situated in the town of Portstewart, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It caters for children from the ages of 4 to 11 years. The school is located in Central Avenue close to the town centre and neighbouring St. Colum's Primary School.

The school has in the past had many famous pupils that have gone on to become bank mangers, lawyers, judges and in the entertainment sector the school has provided footballers such as Adam Mckinney of Northern Ireland and hollywood actor Daniel Morrow. To add to this the school also provided charity funds publicist, Deputy first minister for finance and certified accountant Sir Fergal McManus MBE.

[edit] Dissolving Boundaries

The school takes part in the Dissolving Boundaries Project. They are teamed up with Our Lady of the Wayside National School in Kilternan, Dublin. Over the year they learn to contact the other school by video phone and by using Moodle, an open source e-learning platform. They also create together a book of poems on the themes of 'discrimination' and 'breaking boundaries'.

Research done by the Dissolving Boundaries Project in 2004 found that the project helped both students and teachers embrace new technology, such as video conferencing and web design applications.[1] As well as more integrated use of technology in the classroom, the project has also helped students with teamwork, both within individual schools and between the schools which work together. The children leave the classroom at the end of year with more knowledge of how to use modern technology and with their English skills improved.
