Portable boat lift

For centuries, a boat lift was used to move a boat from one elevation of water to another. These are also referred to as locks.

Since the 1970s, another category of boat lifts emerged, Portable Boat Lifts. These typically owned by the boat owner, and installed in the location where the boat is moored.

There are two main types of portable lifts: Freestandingand Floating.

Freestanding boat lifts typically are supported by the seabed with 4 legs. Originally, freestanding boat lifts used cables to lift a cradle. Today, hydraulics are used to push a 4-bar linkage from the bottom of the boat.

Floating boat lifts also have two main types. One type uses forced air in air tanks to lift the boat. In the last few years, high-speed hydraulic versions floating lifts have also emerged.
