The airport has a 3,000-meter runway, Instrument Landing System CAT3B equipment, 25 check-in counters, and nine boarding access points. AERIA, Abidjan Airport Management Company, operates and manages the whole airport area and relevant indirect services. There is a military apron at the airport. Private aircraft usually park in the commercial area, away from the terminal. Fencing and lighting are adequate at this facility.

A special airport police unit provides security at Abidjan's airport.

[edit] Accidents and incidents

November 23, 1996: Hijackers forced Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961, bound from Mumbai and Addis Ababa to Abidjan through many stops, to crash into the Indian Ocean.
January 30, 2000: Kenya Airways Flight 431 was originally intended to fly from Nairobi to Lagos to Abidjan, but the flight diverted to Abidjan. The aircraft hit the water after takeoff to Lagos.
May 5, 2007: Kenya Airways Flight 507 originated in Abidjan and had stopped in Douala. After takeoff from Douala the aircraft crashed.
