Poochakkoru Mookkuthi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Poochakkoru Mookkuthi (translation: A Nose-Ring for the Pussy Cat) is a screwball Malayalam film starring Nedumudi Venu, Sukumari, Mohanlal, Shankar, Menaka, Soman, Jagathi Sreekumar, Kuthiravattam Pappu, and Srinivasan.
The film, released in 1984, was the debut of Indian director Priyadarshan. The assistant director was Sibi Malayil, who went on to become a major director in his own right.[citation needed]
Poochakkoru Mookkuthi marked the first time the Indian actor Mohanlal was directed by Priyadarshan. Priyadarshan was Mohanlal's friend and senior in college in Thiruvananthapuram. The film started a long association between the actor and director, which resulted in a number of now-classic comedies in Malayalam, including Kilukkam, Chitram, Vellaanakalude Naadu and Thenmavin Kombathu.[citation needed]
In 2003, Priyadarshan remade the film in Hindi, as Hungama, starring Paresh Rawal, Akshaye Khanna, et al.
Singer M. G. Sreekumar made his debut singing the title song of this movie.
This movie itself seems to be a ripoff from a Telugu movie "Gopal Rao Gari Ammayi" (1980) Starring Jayasudha, Chandra Mohan and Mohan Babu.
