reasons: NPOV, no references and particularly the accusation of a "genocide"

After 1945, and the partial extermination and expulsion of the German population resident in Pomerania for 800 years, the Polish state, which acquired this province under the Potsdam agreement, has consistently claimed that Pomerania was originally Polish territory. This is totally false. The Pomeranians were slavic, but not Polish. was a historic fusion of German and Wendish peoples, and claims raised after 1945 by successive Polish governments are attempts to justify their genocide of the resident population. --Mickey195 22:06, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Pomeranians are domestic dogs in the group of small dogs called toys. They were first bred in Germany, where large Pomeranians herded sheep. Pomeranians are friendly and make good pets.

Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Chordata

Class: Mammalia

Order: Carnivora

Family: Canidae

Genus: Canis

Species: Familiaris

Early Pomeranians were bred in Germany in the northern state of Pomerania. They are the descendants of larger sled dogs from Iceland and Lapland. Some larger dogs herded sheep. Smaller Pomeranians became popular in Great Britain in 1888 when Queen Victoria had one as a pet. Modern Pomeranians are smaller and have more fur than the earlier dogs.

Pomeranians have short bodies and heads like foxes. They have long, thick fur and tails like feathers. Their fur may be many different colors. They are six to seven inches (15 to 18 centimeters) tall at the shoulder and may weigh between three and seven pounds (one to three kilograms).

Pomeranians are carnivores, which means they eat meat. Other parts of their diet are vegetables and dry food. Dry food may be made of a variety of grains, vitamins, and minerals. They need fresh water to drink each day. Pomeranians do not have any real natural enemies because their owners take care of them. The greatest threats to dogs are diseases, accidents, and being hit by automobiles.

Pomeranians do not think of their owners as people, but as other dogs in the pack. They act like wild dogs which most often live in packs. Each dog has its own place in the pack. The dogs which are larger, older, and stronger are dominant or in charge. In a similar way, Pomeranians find their place among people in a family as well as among other household pets. The dogs know that the people are dominant or in charge.

Pomeranians do not have very good vision. They cannot see colors, but only see shades of gray. They have very good senses of smell and hearing. They communicate by various sounds and by the expressions on their face. They also communicate by the position of their ears and tail, as well as how they stand or lie down. Pomeranians can identify each other and mark their territories by scents.

Male Pomeranians are able to mate anytime during the year. Most female Pomeranians are able to breed two times a year. Each female has her own breeding times. She is able to mate and become pregnant for 21 days each of the two times each year. When she is ready to mate she is said to be "in heat." Gestation (duration of pregnancy) is around two months. The female may give birth to a few or to several puppies. Giving birth is called whelping. The puppies are born blind and deaf. Their eyes open after 10 days, and they can hear after three weeks. Their first teeth develop after two or three weeks. They are weaned six weeks after birth, which means that they no longer drink their mother's milk but only eat solid food. Adult teeth come after four to six months. Pomeranians are fully grown at two years of age.

Pomeranians may live 8 to 10 years.
