According to Vesuvius Records EPC Book vol. 1: Pompeii V is an alternative band formed in Iowa City, Iowa in 1995. Members include MC LOGO 65, Debbie "10" dB, Jonathan Payne, Michael Hardy, Bassel El-Kasaby, Dasha Washington, Carissa Ries and Matt Gerken (O2 Sensor, Universal Commander). Pompeii V released 3 albums on Vesuvius Records in the 1990s, including "Amphora" (1995), "Oxygen Sensor" (1997), and "Universal Commander" (1998). Pompeii V played 300+ shows in and around Iowa City, IA and Chicago, IL in the late 1990s. Pompeii V exploded internationally during the height of the "grunge" scene in the 1990s. Pompeii V was often overlooked by grunge fans due to the heavy use of synthesizers and samplers in their live show. However, despite the electronic element of the music, Pompeii V is famous for delivering extended jams during their live show. Pompeii V was at once new-wave indie-electronica and stoney, jam-band ala Grateful Dead and Phish. Pompeii V created a foundation and a scene from which many other bands benefited in and around Iowa City, Iowa. Pompeii V took a break from performing in 1999 to relocate to Southern California to continue the pursuit of their musical aspirations.
The members of Pompeii V went on to form several different bands in the 2000s including ProtostarR (MC LOGO 65, Jonathan Payne, Debbie "10" dB, Carissa Ries, Lori Eiserman, John Kazmerzak, Bassel El-Kasaby), Foolhardy (Michael Hardy, Carissa Ries), Chuo & The Silver Turtles (MC LOGO 65, Chuo, Debbie "10" dB) and Nice Monster (Matt Gerken, also a founding member of The Garden of Rabbits of Iowa City, Iowa fame). Pompeii V's large catalogue of songs has influenced several bands' styles since 1995. Pompeii V's ground-breaking album "Universal Commander" continues to be the highest selling album on Vesuvius Records year after year.
Pompeii V relocated to Rialto, CA in 1999 to continue pursuing their rock n' roll dreams. Pompeii V recorded "Flakey Actress EP" at the Golden Rose Studio for Vesuvius Records EPC Rialto, California and released it under the name ProtostarR "Flakey Actress EPC" in 2006. Pompeii V is currently finishing their 4th album on Vesuvius Records at the Vesuvius Records EPC (Executive Producer's Club) Golden Rose Studio in Rialto, CA and is scheduled for release in Fall 2008. The track listing for the 4th studio album includes Pompeii V songs never before recorded or released including: The Pompeii V Song, Have Mercy, Wet Web, Robin Hood, Send Me Away, 3/5th, Switching On, Daisy, Get Down and Dance, Revolution #65 (I Wasn't Talkin' About You) as well as cover songs by Kraftwerk (Das Model), and Gary Neuman's "Cars."
