Pocono Mountain West

Pocono Mountain West High School is a high school located in the Pocono region of Northeast Pennsylvania. It is part of the Pocono Mountain School District. The school district split into two high schools: East and West in 2002 to accommodate the growing population of the area. The school currently houses grades 10 through 12.

Since the district's split, "West" has done so so in sports. In 2006 and 2007, the Pocono Mountain West Track & Field Team became Mountain Valley Conference Champions. In 2007, the football team finally had a good year and beat rival east for the first time ever and was the Mountain Valley Conference Champions. Boys and girls basketball has been very successful but were still no match for east. Since the split, the PM West Marching Band has won the Atlantic Coast Championship.The Pocono Mountain West Marching Band also had the honor of playing for president George W. Bush when he came to the Poconos in 2005. Their chess team and Swim Team however has fallen to east everytime.

The Pocono Mt. West Forensics (Speech and Debate) Team has made great strides in recent years. In 2006, the team sent three competitors to the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) grand national tournament. In 2007, the team again sent three competitors to the national tournament. Every year, the PMW Forensics Team qualifies members to the Pennsylvania High School Speech League (PHSSL) State Tournament at Susquehanna University. In 2007, two members of the team placed and received awards. The team has enjoyed the 1st place Martin Luther King sweepstakes award from E. L. Meyers High School for the past three consecutive years (2006, 2007, 2008). At the same tournament in 2006, the team took home the 4th place overall sweepstakes trophy, and then the 3rd place one in 2007. In 2008, they went home with the 1st place sweepstakes trophy. In February 2008, the team placed first in the Pennsylvania High School Speech League's District 8 tournament.


Pocono Mountain West Student Council was given the award of a National Gold Council of Excellence, one of three in the state.
