DESCRIPTION

Pleta [play-tuh]

-adjective

A combination of two ideas: software testing of a game by developers and third-party players before commercial release (commonly referred to as alpha or beta-testing), and playing the retail version of the same game (after commercial release).

DEFINITION/USAGE

Referring to a game (usually an MMO) which has a significant quantity (or severity) of bugs and/or glitches and is generally unfinished in a way which indicates it should still be in the beta-testing stage of software testing - but has been prematurely released to the public for commercial play (i.e. Pay to play).

This term applies to the quality/reliability of a particular game's code and/or the quality of service provided for the play of said game, by the creating/owning company of said game, and is used to express dissatisfaction at the quality of service and/or reliability of said game's coding.

Although this term is usually used in reference to an MMO (because of the consistency with which most MMO-developers offer open beta-testing to players before release), it can also be used to describe games whose primary mode of play is focused on single-person play.
