Plasmodium volans

Plasmodium volans is a parasite of the genus Plasmodium sugenus Carinamoeba.

Like all Plasmodium species P. volans has both vertebrate and insect hosts. The vertebrate hosts for this parasite are reptiles.

The parasite was first described by Telford in 1995. ^[1]

The schizonts produce 4 – 6 merozoites.

The gametocytes are elongated.

This species is found in the Philippines.

The only known host of this species is the flying lizard Draco volans.
