Planctobacteria is a taxon created by Cavalier-Smith. It is within the bacterial Gracilicutes clade, and comprises phyla Chlamydiae, Planctomycetes, Verrucomicrobia. It is thought that the Planctobacteria probably lost or reduced their peptidoglycan cell wall twice.
