I suggest renaming this article to something more appropriate (Pirs Docking Compartment, ISS Docking Compartment, or something similar). Matevzk 22:20, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The first sentence is thus lifted from the (middle of the) page cited (and also supplies the reason that the article has such a puzzling, vague, and wrongly capitalised title). On the other hand, I thought that I'd found more of the article, and now I can't — which might mean that the source is no longer on the Web, but is more likely to mean that I was a bit hasty. - The article purports to cover the two docking compartments, both Pirs, which was made, and SO2, which was not. It would need to be re-written before Pirs became a suitable title. It was requested that this article be renamed but there was no consensus for it be moved. --Stemonitis 06:42, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Can non-Russian wearers of Orlan space suits exit via Pirs?
The article currently implies only Russian nationals can exit ISS via a Pirs airlock. In fact, can't anyone trained to use Orlan space suits do so? Haven't there already been nationals of countries other than Russia who have done so? Perhaps this sentence could be re-written to mention cosmonauts and "Russian Orlan space suits"? - Yes, of course non-Russians who are trained in using Orlan suits can and have conducted EVAs from Pirs. On 11.23.06 Michael Lopez-Alegria did exactly that. [edit] Cranes
We need to make mention of the 2 russian Strela cranes on Pirs. They were intended for assembly of the power tower (now cancelled). One of the cranes can be extended to reach the end of Zarya, the other can extend to the opposite site and reach the end of Zvezda. The first arm was assembled in space during STS-96 and STS-101. The 2nd was launched alongside Pirs itself. The Strela (russian for arrowhead) cranes are successors to the original MIR strela crane. I have a little bit of trouble finding a good source that has some proper info on the the cranes however. --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 16:53, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
