Pirivom Santhippom is a Tamil movie starring Cheran and Sneha about the life of a young couple in a joint family with the Nattukottai Nagarathar Chettiar community located in Karaikudi, TN.
[edit] Plot
Unusually, this is not a movie dominated by a male protagonist. Instead, it chooses to revolve around the life of Sala (short for Visalatachi) played by Sneha, who when the movie begins is about to complete her master's degree. The only daughter of her parents, she marries into a joint family of assorted uncles, aunts and children, apart from her in-laws. When she moves out along with her husband from a house full of relatives into a house with nobody to speak to, the loneliness begins to slowly get to her.
This loneliness gives Palaniappan the space he needs to make his commentary on family, particularly the Tamil family and "our way of living".
