Pioneer Star

The Pioneer Star is an altanative name of Mizar, Zeta Ursae Majoris (ΞΆ UMa). It lies middle of the handle of the Big Dipper.
Zeta Ursae Majoris is:
- With Alcor (80g UMa), well-known naked-eye pair.
- First discovered telescopic double star in 1616 by an Italian astronomer Benedetto Castelli.
- First taken the photograph of binary in 1857 by an American astronomer George Bond.
- First discovered spectroscopic binary in 1889 by an American astronomer Edward Pickering.
Mizar is a pioneer of some kinds of astronomical "double".
