The Pioneer BDR-101A is the world's first PC compatible Blu-ray Disc recorder. It utilizes an ATAPI connection and complies with the latest specifications for BD-R (Blu-ray Disc recordable), BD-RE (Blu-ray Disc rewritable) and BD-ROM (Blu-ray Disc read-only memory). The drive began shipping on May 17, 2006.

It supports a data transfer rate of 72 Mbit/s (2x) for both reading and writing. It is possible to record over two hours of a high-definition (HD) video (at 24Mbit/s transfer rate) on a single disc.

The drive is available only in beige.

As of August 2006, the retail price is around $1,000 USD.

The BDR-202 Blu-ray Disc/DVD/CD writer is the second-generation Blu-ray Disc writer from Pioneer. The drive can read BDROM discs, read/write single layer BD-R & BD-RE discs, read DVD-ROM, and read/write most DVD and CD recordable media formats. Offering 4x burning speed, the BDR-202 can create a full BD-R 25GB disc in around 25 minutes. The drive began shipping in Europe on July 30, 2007 and in the USA on September 21, 2007.

It supports a data transfer rate of 144 Mbit/s (4x) for writing single-layer, BD-R discs. It can read single layer BD-ROM/R/RE discs at 5x CAV, or Dual Layer BD-ROM at 2x CLV.

The drive is available in beige or black.

As of October 2007, the retail price is around $649.99 USD.
