[edit] Clean-up
The addition of the category is good. We also need to divide the article into sections for easier reading and wikify terms. See: New Orleans Mardi Gras for an example. DoubleBlue (Talk) 21:35, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Decline
One section should be decline. Besides fear of black congregation it should be included that whites viewed it in moral terms as well. For example an anonymous observer of Pinkster in 1803 described “blacks and a certain class of whites” in “a motley group of thousands” that evoked “to the eye of the moral observer, a kind of chaos of sin and folly, of misery and fun.” Whites used the festive behavior associated with the celebration to confirm bias against blacks and whites who participated were considered "lower."
