[edit] The Tropics
As of 0000 UTC April 19, 2008, there are 4 areas to watch in the tropics. They are Severe Tropical Storm Neoguri, Tropical Cyclone 27P, 95S, and 96S.
[edit] Typhoon Neoguri
As of 0340 UTC April 19, 2008, Severe Tropical Storm Neoguri was located near 21.0N 111.6E, moving north at 8 kt, 9 mph. The maximum sustained winds (10-min average) is 55 kt, 65 mph, with gusts to 80 kt, 90 mph. The minimum central pressure is 980 mb. It is forecast to continue to weaken, eventually weakening to below tropical storm status, forcing the JMA and JTWC to issue their last advisories on Neoguri. Neoguri is a Korean name. It means "Raccoon Dog", according to Wikipedia.
[edit] Tropical Cyclone 27P
The last advisory on 27P (Tropical Depression 16F) has been issued at 0000 UTC (0900 KST). As of that time, the maximum sustained winds (1-min avg) are at 35 kt, barely above tropical storm strength. During the next 6 hours, it is forecast to weaken below tropical storm status and dissipate. No more will be done by me for TC 27P (TD 16F).
[edit] 95S & 96S
The remaining areas of interest are 95S and 96S. They both have maximum sustained winds of 15 kt, with minimum pressure of 1010 mb. Although they are weak right now, they are worth watching.
