My 2008 Atlantic Hurricane Season Forecast
OK, as of this writing, I predict:
- 14~17 named storms
- 6~8 hurricanes
- 4 major hurricanes
- 2~3 Cat 5 hurricanes
I predict an above-average season, with a La NiƱa in the beginning and a neutral season forming in mid-season. Also, I predict that the first official investigation area (invest) will form on May 10. 90L, in my opinion, will not strengthen into a tropical storm, and I'm giving it a 50% chance of becoming a tropical depression. So, I expect 91L to form around the first few days of June, and I expect a tropical depression (which would be number one) to form by June 3. I predict the first hurricane to form on August 11, from 97L, a tropical depression forming on August 9. I predict a major hurricane from the same storm on August 14.
Don't take my predictions seriously. They are usually wrong, but I like making predictions.
I expect the last invest to form on December 21. In December I predict that there will be 2 invests, and the first one will have the chance to form into a tropical depression/storm.
The number of invests that I think will form is very problematic. As of this writing, I predict about 30 invests, which will increase and decrease as the season progresses.
