[edit] Are pig-footed bandicoots really extinct?
Because they're currently listed as endangered on the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service TESS database (Threatened and Endangered Species System)... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.90.96.17 (talk) 13:09, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- CITES lists it as possibly extinct, the US ESA lists it as endangered, and the IUCN lists it as extint. We follow the IUCN for the most part in our taxoboxes. The last known specimen was taken in 1907. CITES and the US ESA are laws whose purpose is to protect species from becoming extinct. IUCN isn't a law, but a conservation organization whose job is to determine if a species is threatened with extinct or not, or if the species has become extinct. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:21, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
