[edit] Jean-Victor Poncelet

I rewrote the article (though, as you can see from my workshop layout, it's not quite done - two sections need to be written, the "later years" section needs to be expanded, the article in general should probably contain more details, and possibly a "legacy" section should be added. However, I hope you find my rewrite satisfactory. You can comment on the article's talk page. Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 21:15, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

I'll correct these. I already have the Didion document, and am currently collaborating with Randomblue on the article. I can only read French a bit, so I'm relying on Randomblue (who can read French far better than I can) to supply the facts from that document. However, I think according to the document he was left for dead by his fellow soldiers - he may have fought the enemy to the last minute, but his fellow soldiers deserted him. Here what is in Didion on P. 166:
  • During the night of the 18th November 1812, the members of the excellent troops who have not followed the Marshall (Ney) had no hope to escape the Russian army; they were cut, they have to find an arrangement, and after long talks they capitulate and were declared prisoners.

[edit] Poncelet

Hi Pierre. I, like you, speak fluent French so I will not need help translating Didion, but you can always join in the actual fact searching! My University library has the second book you recommend so I'll may have a look at it some time. BTW, why do you know so much about Poncelet? Are you related? An alumnus from l'X? A historian?
