Piero Mazzi is an Italian painter and sculptor. A museum dedicated to him, "Museo Piero Mazzi", has existed since 2001 in Les Cullayes near Lausanne, Switzerland.[citation needed]
[edit] The art of Piero Mazzi
Piero Mazzi says that he is a painter who loves painting what he sees and what he remembers having seen, stimulated in his work by a vast passion, by the need to speak through images. His language aims at a profound genuineness: in an invitation from 1974 he addresses the potential visitor declaring himself open to a "contact devoid of hypocrisy and etiquette".
His approach to painting is everyday and traces this sincerity of intention, this desire to bring art and life together. He frequently begins to paint with the first glimmers of daylight, seaking a solar light as limpid as possible so that he does not have to rely on the artificial light of a lamp, which is obviously not the same thing, especially for an artist who loves the chiaroscuro and the plays of shadow, and who manages to render solar, and at times unexpectedly warm, a painting which exists only by virtue of colors which are commonly considered cold.
In addition to painting Piero Mazzi has been active as a sculptor. His work can be seen for example in Capoliveri on the island of Elba.
