Pickering Beach is a community in the City of Pickering, Ontario located on Lake Ontario approximately 30 minutes from Toronto. It was once an important cottage destination for the upper class that was established by the prominent Toronto lawyer James Tuckett, in the 1920s. Today it is now a part of the Town of Ajax with most of the land having lost its original cottages, colossal homes having been built in their place. Among notable Canadians who were born in, lived in, or visited the beach are grocery chain founder T. P. Loblaw, wrestler 'Whipper' Billy Watson, artist Florence Helena McGillivray, pioneering woman school board trustee Alice Charlotte Corbet and artist Christian Cardell Corbet.
