Piano Sonata No. 15 (Mozart)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 15 in F major, KV 533/494 (finished January 3 1788) is a sonata in three movements:

  1. Allegro
  2. Andante
  3. Rondeau Allegro

A typical performance takes about 23 minutes.

The F Major Sonata was written in two parts -- hence, the two Koechel numbers. The Rondeau finale was originally written as a separate piece as K. 494. A few months later, the first two movements were written. At his publisher Hoffmeister's request, he joined K. 494 to them to form a three-movement sonata, referred to as K. 533, adding a twenty-seven measure cadenza to the Rondo making use of lower registers of the piano not heard in the rest of the movement.
