Talk:PhotoRec

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

By mistake, I deleted the images directory off of my mobile phone (W800i), which happens to use the Pro Duo series memory card. Fortunately, after a bit of investigation I came across this rather clever piece of software (for W2K, in this case).

Though the interface may be a bit difficult to use (for the less-technical person), it was able to recover almost all of the files I lost, including photos, mp3s, archives, documents - amongst other things which I had thought had been removed.

I just wanted to say thank you, and also recommend it to other people who may find themselves in a similar situation. :-D

This software shows why it is not good enough to simply delete sensitive data. As you said it found stuff you thought had been removed. When things are deleted they are just deleted from an allocation table, the files themselves stay on the card until that memory space is used by new files. So if you have sensitive data and you delete it, be sure to fill the card up with rubbish.--Dacium 06:53, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
