Phillip Reed Hammond was born September 16, 1983 in Fond du Lac, WI to Mark and Janis Hammond. When he was five, his family moved to Fairfield, OH where his father took an associate pastoring job at Lindenwald Baptist Church. Five years later his family moved back to Wisconsin to the town of Oshkosh where his parents had grown up.
He attended Wyldewood Christian School from his fifth grade year until graduation, during which he worked local paper routes, and later as a pizza maker at Papa John's Pizza. It was during this time he started reflecting on his life. Though he had been raised in a Christian home, he had never applied the Christian faith to his own life. It was to conversion of his oldest brother, Timothy, which led him to the Lord. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic. He entered basic training at Naval Station Great Lakes Recruit Training Command July 7, 2003. He attended "A" school at NAS Pensacola, and "C" school on the P-3 Orion aircraft at Naval Air Station Jacksonville.
His first station was at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Southern Maryland, with the "Pioneers" of Air Test and Evaluation Squadron One. There, he gain the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He also attended Calvary Baptist Church, pastored by William B. Ruckmann, in Lexington Park, Maryland.
Upon transferring from VX-1, he flew to Poland with Couriers for Christ Ministry, on a missionary trip to assist in the distribution of over 100,000 pieces of Scripture to the people of Łodz. He is currently stationed in Hawaii aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii as a Petty Officer Second Class. He attends Ko'olau Baptist Church in Kaneohe, HI.
