[edit] Streams developer

During a talk in about 1985, I recall that Dennis Ritchie publicly gave credit to Peter Weinberger (I think), for his identification of the 2 places in Unix where streams could be implemented by simply inserting the appropriate function calls. Can anyone verify or corroborate this? I do not have access to the Unix source code to verify this on my own. Ancheta Wis 20:49, 25 May 2004 (UTC)

  • Peter Weinberger developed streams -- Confirm or Deny

Peter denies developing streams (personal conversation).

This page seems to be a vanity effort. What is required for a person's life to rise to the level of encyclopedic interest? I would suggest that it is more than this page gives us. This page is going to find itself on VfD before long. NuclearWinner 04:59, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)

It is a major accomplishment to be a computer programming language designer, especially one as influential as AWK, which is a forerunner of Perl, which was used to develop the first version of Wikipedia, for example. The man is notable and deserves an article in Wikipedia. Ancheta Wis 02:04, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
