Certainly quotes cited second hand that include words like "shit" are inappropriately inflammatory for an encyclopedia entry. This kind of accusation belongs in a blog or other forum appropriate for an opinion piece. Thanks for your note and for understanding.

The fact that the editor of the New York Times has a strong influence on its content goes without saying. Unproved allegations of Gelb receiving unfair access to coverage in the Times are inappropriate for this forum.

Definately agree that citing the father's book is irrelevant here. Markhh18:00 25 Feburary 2005

Hi there. Thanks for your response on this page. One minor thing -- at Wikipedia we have a policy of signing talk pages, which you can do with four tildes ~~~~.
  • With regard to the word "shit", this is appropriate, since Wikipedia is not censored and the word appears verbatim in the source which is referenced.
  • I'll concede the point about the editor of the NYT having a strong influence being obvious.
  • It is appropriate to report an allegation, such as Peter Gelb allegedly receiving preferential treatment in the Times, when it is made that allegation has been made by a Reliable source and is referenced and reported accurately.
Thanks! I hope that you continue to enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. Grover cleveland 04:05, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

I felt that introducing a separate section for Controversies regarding Mr Gelb created a way of addressing these issues in a level-headed way and leave the biographical section free of acrimonious comments. Since we obviously can't agree, I have asked the issue to be evaluated by Wiki editors on the living persons biographies noticeboard and would appreciate input from any other interested contributors! Nothing personal, we just have very different ideas on what should be posted here. I'll look forward to what ever a senior editor suggests. Thanks for tip on signing.
