[edit] Criticism of Peter Duncan as Chief Scout

Earlier I noted that recent edits critical of Peter's appointment as Chief Scout needed sources to be cited. On reflection I have removed the sections below from the article and put them here for discussion.

"Many within the Scouting community dispute his aptitude and intentions for becoming the Chief Scout. The vacancy in 2004 was the first to be advertised in national press, traditionally Chief Scouts have been recruited from those with continued involvement in the Scouting movement. His predecessor, George Purdy had a Scouting career spanning more than 40 years. Duncan's personal involvement was limited to 2 years as a Cub Scout.

This lack of experience is illustrated by him being the first Chief Scout to require a Deputy, and his poor knowledge of basic Scouting terms - mistaking a Beaver Scout for a Cub Scout and calling a woggle a toggle.

During the European Scout Jamboree "EuroJam" 2005, Duncan was only present for the opening of the event - and to show his face to the press. Soon after he disappeared back to India - leading many within the Scouting community believe his role as Chief Scout is only of benefit to his career in television."

These statements fall squarely into the category of possible libellous statements about a living person that has been recently discussed on the mailing list. Jimbo Wales had clearly indicated that such material should be deleted. At the very least, they need to be carefully cited so it is clear that everything is verified. Even then care should be used in adding this material back to the article. --Bduke 11:50, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Redirect

Peter Duncan (Scouting) is now a re-direct. I would recommend removing it in 2009 when he is no longer Chief Scout. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crazyboy899 (talkcontribs)

Why? It will do no harm. He will still have been Chief Scout. --Bduke 23:29, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
Because he will no longer be related to Scouting. --Joe 13:20, 5 August 2007 (GMT)
But he will, as a former Chief Scout and some people may look for him in that context. --Bduke 12:33, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
Now in lower case. (Peter Duncan (scouting)) I may also add (Chief Scout). Also added an Actor Infobox, needing a picture, precise location etc. --Joe 16:53, 5 August 2007 (GMT)
Scouting is always upper case in this context; lower case is for reconnaissance scouting. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 12:08, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Lifetaker

I have not seen this movie, and there is very little information on the web. Looking at the IMDB profile [1] does not give me the sense that it is pornographic. Amazon does not sell porn videos [2], and I doubt they have press kits [3]. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 12:11, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Over the years, I have seen several clips of this film and they were indeed pornographic in nature. By today's standard it was very tame but at the time Blue Peter was very conservative, prim and proper and Duncan's involvement in that kind of film would have been an outrage.

IMDB claims the certification of the film was "UK:X" at the time, which was usually reserved for pornographic or extremely violent films.

Amazon selling it doesn't mean it doesn't contain pornographic scenes - Amazon also sell "The Stud", which doesn't have ANYTHING to do with horses!

Searching google for '"the lifetaker" porn' brings back the following articles:

Duncan is bound to play down the nature of the film (in subsequent interviews) as he's leader of the scouting movement in the UK!

At the time, the film was definitely pornographic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SexyBern (talkcontribs) 16:14, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Is there an article that is not a slam-piece on Blue Peter? --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 17:33, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
