I can't remember ever seeing a middle name for Peter Cooper. Can anyone find a source of "Fennimore"? Lent 05:32, 1 September 2006 (UTC)


After much Internet searching I cannot find documentation on "Fennimore". I can find the middle names or initials of every other candidate in the 1876 election including Peter Cooper's running mate Samuel Fenton Cary, but not Peter Cooper.

It looks like the source of the misinfomation was a revision to: United States presidential election, 1876

which is perhaps derived from:

So I am removing the middle name until and unless someone can come up with a citation.

which also details one of Peter Cooper's other attempts to found an educational institution, in this case Limestone College.

Peter Cooper's surviving son Edward Cooper and his son-in-law Abram S. Hewitt both served as mayors of New York City.
