Petra Christian University is a major private university in Indonesia. It currently has about 15,500 students and 6 faculties and one professional school. Webometric[1] ranks Petra Christian University as the highest among all private universities in Indonesia.

On September 21st, 1960, the Committee of University Establishment Planning Preparation was formed, with the duty to prepare all the necessities to establish a university. The members of the committee were: drg. Tan Tjiaw Yong, Gouw Loe Liong, drg. Tan Gie Djien, Tjoa Siok Tjoen, Lie Ping Lioe and Kwee Djien Kian. Afterwards, based on their work, on August 8th, 1961, the coordinators decided to establish Petra Christian University with the its first department, Faculty of Letters [2] on September 22nd, 1961 with the support of seven Protestant churches denominations:
1. Gereja Bethel Injil sepenuh (GBIS) 2. Gereja Gereformeerd Surabaya (GGS) 3. Gereja Kristen Indonesia (GKI) 4. Gereja Kristen Jawi Wetan (GKJW) 5. Gereja Pantekosta Pusat Surabaya (GPPS) 6. Gereja Protestan di Indonesia bagian Barat (GPIB) 7. Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP)
In 1991, Gereja Gereformeerd Surabaya was integrated with Gereja Kristen Indonesia (GKI); therefore, since then, Petra Christian University has the support of 6 churches in Surabaya.
Started with only 60 students, in the first ever English department. A year later, on September 15th, 1962, the second department: Civil Engineering was established.

Library of Petra Christian University are among one of the most advanced library in Indonesia. It has more than 12,000 titles of books, media, journals and maps. Many services are also offered on the internet, such as the catalog, digital theses, and online journals.

Computer Center maintains computer-assisted labs and all hardware and networking solutions in Campus. It also manages general labs that can be use by students and staffs in doing their classes and researches.

Got any problem? Peer pressure or too much study load? In need for the right way to work? Students can tell the counselling staff about it.

All students and staffs are covered with health and life insurance up to a certain amount. The university offers free health facilities, free consultation with medical doctors and dentists and discounted medicine.

There are two banks and their ATMs operates in campus: Bank Niaga and Bank Lippo.

Post Office, Public Telecommunication office (for phone, fax and Cyber Cafes) are available inside campus

Student can park in designated places in campus.

The campus has several canteens where students may buy food and drinks.

Despite two franchise mini market in Siwalankerto, the campus has its own mini-market as well, where you can buy stuff like: stationery, drinks, magazines and the like.
[edit] Scholarship and Financial Aid
Scholarships are available before and after you are enrolled as a student in UK Petra. There are many types of scholarship too. When stduents got trouble paying tuition fee, they can be arranged for a student loan that they might be able to pay back during the semester. Different from other universities in Indonesia, students in Petra Christian University can also work part-time in offices of the universities. Starting from places like the library and computing center to Australian Study Center. The schedule to work is synchronized with the lectures schedule, so that the students can work in between classes and not worrying that they might miss classes. Scholarship students however cannot work off-campus.
