As of 2001 India census[2], Petlad had a population of 51,153. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Petlad has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 67%. In Petlad, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age. Economy depends on farmers from surrounding villages.

Talking about literacy, Petlad is a proud town where Mr. Sardar Patel "Iron Man Of India" did his schooling.

One of the two spinning mills, Shyamprakash Spinning Millslink title,after being restarted by the same owner, provides employment to 300 workers.
